Autofocus is snappy and quiet, which makes a big difference when I'm shooting wildlife. The 0.59x magnification surprised me for a lens this compact, letting me get really close for macro-style shots without swapping glass.

The 8x zoom range on this lens is incredibly handy for travel, letting me go from wide group shots to a tight portrait without swapping glass. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how well the image stabilization handles handheld video at the telephoto end.

I was surprised how sharp this lens stays at the telephoto end, even when I'm shooting handheld without a tripod. The image stabilization really helps get crisp shots of distant subjects like birds in trees.
